CHOPIN: Nocturne, Op. 32 No. 2; Barcarolle
BEETHOVEN: Andante Favori
SAINT-SAENS: The Swan
LISZT: Un Sospiro
GALUPPI: Sonata in C
KODALY: Marosszek Dances

GERSHWIN:  Embraceable You; The Man I Love; Fascinatin' Rhythm; I Got Rhythm

Fleur de Son 57971-68 minutes

The Steinway used to record this CD isn't just any old piano. It's Penneys' very own Model "D." Built in 1891. It's a magnificent instrument, and Penneys uses it to produce a kaleidoscope of tonal color. Just listen to the pastel warmth of her Chopin "Nocturne in A-flat major," the sparkling brilliance of her Liszt "Concert Etude No.3" ("Un Sospiro") and the vivid luster of her Gershwin-Wild etudes. Penneys plays these works and others by Beethoven, Saint-Saëns, Galuppi and Kodály with immediacy, spontaneity and an all-encompassing technique. In an age of pianistic sameness, Penneys shines as a true original.
